What "free skip tracing" actually means here
Skip tracing is the step between a property list and a phone call: you start with a name and an address, and you end with a number you can actually dial. Most tools that do this charge per lookup, so a list of a few thousand owners gets expensive before you have made a single call. Tracepoint gives every new account 5,000 lookups one time, at no cost, and does not ask for a card first.
The word "free" here means the whole thing: the lookups, the CRM that holds the results, the dialer, texting and the property search that helped you build the list in the first place. Nothing is a trial version of a paid plan. When your free lookups run out, you book a call and more are added by hand — the product does not stop working, and nothing you already built disappears.
Why the lookups run on your own PC
The tracing itself runs through the Tracepoint Helper, a small app you install on a Windows PC. That is also the reason it can be free: instead of paying a data company for every lookup at scale, the work happens on hardware you already own. Install the Helper, pair it with your workspace once, and leave it running while you work your list. No Helper running, no new lookups — everything else in the app still opens normally.
How the 5,000 lookups actually get spent
A lookup is only used the first time Tracepoint finds a phone number it has not found for that owner before. If you upload the same list again next month, or the month after, the owners already in your workspace come back for nothing — you are only charged a lookup when a genuinely new number comes back. That means a working list of a few hundred owners can be re-run for a long time before it comes close to the free total.
